National pro-life groups continue this week to follow the development of “Baby Chris” (see www.BabyChris.org), now 24 weeks old. This project enables people to learn about – and see – the development that every human being undergoes in these first nine months of life.
Survival rates continue to increase for babies born prematurely at this stage.
Developmental facts and striking images and video are provided each week, along with a prayer and social media tools.

Developmental Facts

The baby is now 24 weeks old, since fertilization, is 14 inches and weighs 1 and ¾ pounds.

The baby’s heart has beat over 33 million times.

Sometimes breathing motions occur up to 44 times per minute.

Sudden, loud noises trigger a blink-startle response, and may cause the baby to have increased heart rate, excessive swallowing, and prolonged active movement.

The lungs are now producing a substance vital for breathing after birth.

Prayer is the foundation of all we do in the pro-life movement.

You Are My God

Creator and Lord of all Life,
From the womb, you have been my God.
From the womb, you have protected my life, sustained my growth, and revealed – in me – an image of your glory.
The more we learn about this journey through the womb that we have all made,
The fewer differences we see between life in the womb and life outside the womb.
We pray, Lord, that we, together with all in our society, will grow in our appreciation
That every child in the womb is truly “one of us,”
A brother, a sister in the one human family
And in the one marvelous journey of human life.
We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
